Burton’s Manufactured Housing Energy Services

The majority of a community’s operating expenses are passed through to the residents, either through individual utility meters, RUBS, or rebilling while the common areas of clubhouses, amenity buildings, street lighting, etc. are typically the responsibility of the ownership group. Water and energy efficiency opportunities in this sector typically revolve around two areas – common areas and resident meters.

In the common areas, energy (HVAC and lighting) and water (plumbing fixtures, swimming pools, and irrigation) are under the control of the ownership group and offer opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce operating expense through various upgrades.

For the resident water meters, having highly accurate meters is paramount as an inaccurate meter typically fails in the resident’s favor, meaning they pay less than what they should. Burton has installed nearly 40,000 water and electric meters across the country and maintains a meter health above 99%. This means greater revenue recovery for the ownership group and increased profitability.
