What is a Commercial Energy Audit?
Energy audits are an important first step to improve profitability and reduce the environmental footprint of facilities. Typically, through an ASHRAE Level 2 audit, opportunities leading to a 10-20% energy reduction are identified.
An energy audit is a comprehensive analysis of a facilityās energy usage and expense to determine where, when, and how energy is being used. This provides insights into current energy costs and identifies sustainable measures that can reduce energy usage and carbon intensity, increase energy savings, and promote environmental responsibility.
An energy audit addresses all major energy end use equipment and control systems, and available utility rebates and incentives are also identified during the audit process which may help to offset implementation costs. We work with our clients to understand their return-on-investment objectives and identify projects that meet those criteria.
Audits can be conducted to varying degrees based on the desired outcome. The greater the audit level, the greater the engineering, analysis, and value.
Energy audit costs are primarily dependent on the audit level as well as the size and complexity of the facility. The audit level should be based on the clientās intended outcome as the right level will deliver a good balance between cost and value.
In addition to laying the groundwork for substantial energy savings and incentives, Burtonās energy engineering team can also conduct audits that will allow a facility to meet its energy audit requirements that are in effect for several cities throughout the country. These City and State Energy Compliance Mandates require large and medium-sized buildings to complete an ASHRAE energy audit, building tune-up, retro-commissioning, or similar service every few years.
Burton understands the complexities of these utility mandated assessments and can advise on audit due dates, exemptions, and extensions. Burton engineers have the necessary years of required experience and possess a recognized license or accreditation to perform audits to meet the various requirements.
