A big box retailer with over 2,300 stores in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico was struggling to identify, track, and maintain compliance with city and state-mandated energy benchmarking requirements. As a result, they were incurring tens of thousands in fines annually as well as reputational risk for being non-compliant.

The Burton Solution

To proactively identify the 50+ city, state, and municipal requirements and ensure compliance, Burton created a custom database which detailed program requirements, penalties, and submission timelines. Additionally, Burton submitted all paperwork, supporting documentation, and completed the required energy, water, RCx, and/or tune-up audits needed to maintain compliance. Since engaging Burton, the client has maintained 100% compliance across the portfolio. This includes more complex programs such as NYC Local Law 87, Boston BERDO, and Los Angeles EBEWE.
