Meet Our Team

Our History

2001

The Company was founded in 2001 working on behalf of FelCor Lodging Trust (now RLJ Lodging Trust), a hospitality REIT with 185 hotels in 35 states and an annual energy spend of > $50M. The goals were to educate the corporate and property teams on energy and water management, secure more competitively priced supply agreements in deregulated markets, and reduce energy and water usage and costs.

2006

Burton expanded in the hotel market with five additional clients, one of which was Aimbridge Hospitality. At the time Aimbridge managed only 24 hotels but would grow their portfolio to over 1,500 assets and become the largest third-party hospitality management company in the world.

2009

The growth of the Burton hotel portfolio created the need for additional employees, one of which was Managing Partner Mark Breuker. His leadership created opportunities to evolve into other vertical markets. The Company brought on four additional employees and added our first retail and restaurant clients (Staples and McDonald’s, respectively).

2011

The Company invested in industry veterans to round out the management team, hiring Jason Hamby as VP Operations, Kristen Murphy as VP Supply & Risk Management, and Banks Quarles as VP Finance & Accounting. All three still call Burton home today.

2013

The Company portfolio surpassed 25k facilities and 10 Fortune 500 clients.

2015

As the water infrastructure of many cities in the US deteriorated, water and sewer rates increased, and our clients needed guidance on water efficiency measures. Burton hired a leading subject matter expert, Chris DeChantal, to lead our water management practice and provide recommendations on how to reduce water costs.

2016

With conservation management, including energy and water audits and retro-commissioning projects, becoming more of a Company focus, Burton brought back Jason Thompson as VP Demand Services. Jason assembled talented engineers to lead comprehensive projects on behalf of AT&T, Walgreens, Home Depot and CBRE, to name a few.

2019

Burton expanded our services platform to include project management of HVAC replacements. Alex Lechleiter was tapped to lead this effort, first on behalf of Dollar Tree and in subsequent years Dollar General. Under his direction, the project management team and client base has grown exponentially

2020

The global pandemic particularly impacted our three largest markets – hotels, restaurants and retail – yet the Company only lost one client. Burton doubled down to assist customers during this unprecedented time, working on their behalf with utilities and other vendors.

2022

The Company portfolio surpassed 50,000 facilities and 15 Fortune 500 clients.

2024

As the Company’s portfolio exceeded 70,000 facilities and 25 Fortune 500 clients, the Company’s brand needed to be updated. Burton invested in a brand and website refresh to update its proposals, reports, and online presence to be more reflective of our status as an industry leader.
