Giving Back - The 2011 World Series Wager
Brent Burton, Managing Partner of Burton Energy Group, is a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. Troy Pentecost, COO of FelCor Lodging Trust one of Burton Energy Group's hospitality clients, is a Texas Rangers fan (as are most of the FelCor employees.) At the start of the 2011 World Series, Brent placed a friendly wager with Troy. The wager stated: if the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series, FelCor would contribute $1,000 to one of Brent's favorite charities - St. Jude Children's Hospital. If Texas were to win, Burton would contribute $1,000 to FelCor's charity of choice - Autism Speaks.
Well, we all know the outcome of the World Series - the Cardinals won in 7 exciting games! Thus FelCor wrote a check to St. Jude (hooray!) And in the spirit of giving, Burton chose to match their generosity and write a check for $1,000 to Autism Speaks as well.
Here's hoping all the moons will align again in 2012 for a Fall Classic rematch!
