National Pharmaceutical Wholesale Company Applies Strategic Approach and Renewables to Energy Procurement
To save money and ensure a reliable supply of both electricity and natural gas, AmerisourceBergen Corporation (ABC) worked with Burton Energy Group to develop a strategic approach to energy procurement. In 2019, this resulted in over $800,000 savings across 13 of their largest distribution facilities. Burton assisted ABC in achieving this through a tailored RFP process, managing price risk along with industry and market expertise. After contract execution, Burton continues to maintain a strong working relationship with ABC through ongoing communication, energy data management, and proactive monitoring for future opportunities.
Initially, ABC asked Burton to provide electric and gas procurement for some of the largest distribution facilities across their national portfolio of approximately 100 sites. Since that original engagement, Burton has advised ABC on renewable energy, both on-site as well as through utility offered generation and Renewable Energy Credits.
Burton continues to watch the market for opportunities to hedge against price risk and protect ABC’s budget. ABC is achieving year-over-year savings when compared to the utility default rate as well as long-term certainty of their budget. Additionally, Burton stays involved with ABC through data collection, management of utility bill pay services, and reporting.
“Burton Energy Group has been a trusted partner of AmerisourceBergen for three years now, helping us accelerate the development and rollout of our energy management and corporate sustainability programs. We have realized substantial savings in our deregulated supply contracts, better visibility for our portfolio’s energy performance, and improvements in efficiency in many of our distribution centers.”
